Front Patio (Porch)

We picked up some Trex Composite decking from Craigslist from a man who had lots left over from a pool deck and got it for a steal. So with the amount of decking we had we decided to build the porch to fit the decking rather than the other way around. We figured out we could build an 8 x 18 foot porch on the front of our house and that would fit perfectly in to our plans.

Day one we did what most of us hate to do... Prepare the area! Dig out all the old plants, mulch and sod in order to frame in the area. We also had picked up from concrete deck blocks from another Craigs list purchase and decided to use them instead of completely leveling the area. Since we were using the blocks we decided to build the frame in sections and join the sections together in order to make sure it was all going to be level. As you can see from the picture the easy part was to come. Making sure the sections were level and at the right height was the most difficult.
Will continue next blog with more information and pics.
