Brick Pavers Add On

After completing the front porch we decided that we needed to add some brick pavers to the area where the mulch and stepping stones were. We found that when we parked our truck or car we were having to get out of the vehicle and step into the mulch so once again, wife found pavers on craigs list very reasonable and we set out to get them, loaded them in the back of the Tundra and then unloaded them. We then laid out a pattern that we both liked and figured out how much dirt we would have to move to make it work. After laying it out we figured we would make a 6 x 8 paver pad and then add a mulch bed around it to tie it into the existing edging.

And thus here the story begins...... Clearing the area, digging up roots, grass and mulch, leveling the area, tamping the area to get it as level as possible and then and only then were we ready to use the sand base etc. I read on one of the sites that the easiest way to level the sand base was to lay PVC pipe in the area the size that was needed to bring the pavers up to the height needed. So by leveling the pipe in the area to the height I needed I was able to use the pipe for screeding the sand. It worked very well. Once the sand was level and complete you just take the pipe out and fill the area before you start laying the brick. Since this is getting long I'll continue in the next blog......
